The date for 2017 event is yet to be advised.
The Fiordland Big 3 tournament is a hunting event based in the Fiordland Mountains around Te Anau, New Zealand. Hunters team up to bag a deer, pig and prize-winning fish in just two days. Might seem easy to some, but the 'one that got away' just doesn't count.
Hunting begins at 7:00pm on the Thursday before Queen's Birthday weekend. Teams can hunt throughout the Fiordland region and also the wider Southland and Otago area to bag the best they can find in each of the three trophy species; deer, pig, fish. Hunting teams must then get to the weigh-in before the 2:00pm cut-off deadline on Sunday.
During the course of the afternoon there will be pig carrying competitions for men, ladies, children, and a combined adult and child section. There will also be a possum skinning demonstration. Look out for the possum-slinging too! Great fun and great prizes up for grabs. The major prize of a hunting trip into Fiordland for 4 people is sponsored by Te Anau Helicopter Services.
The 2016 event is being run by the Te Anau Rugby Club with all proceeds going towards Junior Rugby in Te Anau.
