The Te Anau Tartan Festival is a celebration of New Zealand's, and especially Southland's Scottish heritage. This family fun-filled event is held over the Easter weekend and includes a traditional 'highland' games, dancing, piping and drumming competitions, Pipeworkz in Concert and a Hoedown.
The weekend has a number of events to tickle the fancy. From strength to sampling there's something for all.
The Highland Games, Highland Dancing, Piping and Drumming, Flying Scotsman and Tug-o-war events are held at the Te Anau Primary School on the Saturday 15th April.
- Highland heavyweight championship - Includes caber tossing, sheaf tossing, stone carry, and farmer's walk.
- Kids’ junior highland games
- Piping and dancing - Solo piping, Solo drumming, Pipe band performances

- One mile kilted dash
The Highland Hoedown is on Saturday 15th April starting at 8pm. A fun filled night of scottish music and dancing!
