Te Anau Helicopter Services Fiordland Big 3 - Event details

The following general information should be read by all competitors and forms a guide to expectations during the event. We suggest printing it out for future reference. You must also read the full tournament rules.


Adults - Entry cost $150 (up to 4 people per team)
Kids - FREE


Entries must be in no later than 5:00pm on Thursday the 2nd of June. Enter via the Big 3 online entry form.
NO hunting is permitted prior to 7.00pm on Thursday the 2nd of June.
Weigh in starts 12:00pm Sunday 5th June
Weigh in cut-off 2:00pm Sunday 5th June

Points Scoring System

New point scoring system this year:
First Prize will go to the team with the most points from all 3 species.  Points will be worked out from the weight of the deer and pig; and the fish
Condition Factor (CF) of the fish.  The heaviest/best CF of each will be allocated 100 points, the second heaviest/best CF will be given 99 points, third 98 points and so on.
Second prize will be by random prize draw of all teams that weigh in all three species (the winning team will not be eligible for this draw).

There are separate prizes for the team with the average overall points, Best Antlers, Best Tusks and Best Conditioned Fish.

Weigh-in and prize-giving

The Rugby Club bar will be open from 12.00 noon on Sunday when weigh-in starts. There will be food will be available from this time as well. Prize-giving will take place once all entries have been processed.
Note: The Te Anau Rugby Club operate Licensed Premises. NO BYO will be Permitted.

Because of the vast expanse allowed for competitors to compete in, no formal monitoring of competitors is appropriate. If an emergency situation arises then competitors should phone 111 and go through the usual channels.
The Tournament Manager can be contacted on 021 211 6857.
Boaties using Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri should check in with Bluff Fishermans Radio on VHF Channel 63. The Tournament Committee will also monitor this channel.
Emergency Locator Beacons will be available for hire and purchase in Te Anau during the tournament.
Remember to secure all Firearms as per the required laws and regulations.
